As every football fan knows there is nothing quite as special as a last minute winner.
When your team has been short of their best in a game where a decisive gap can be opened up in a title race it tastes all the sweeter. And that’s what Celtic fans got on Sunday at Rugby Park – delivered by Scott Brown.
Towards the end of 2018 there was plenty of debate about whether the midfielder’s best days were behind him, if he slowed the team down and whether he was holding back the development of other players.
Wiser heads knew the value of Brown – having someone tried and tested to go the extra mile is a priceless commodity that can’t be measured, bought or sold.
Since the turn of the year Brown has returned to being a fixture in the Celtic side, in the front line and in the face of opponents as he drives the Hoops on when some were starting to question him, his manager and team-mates.
Last week’s goal against St Johnstone was spectacular but not many in his career will be remembered like the last gasp winner at Kilmarnock with a kindly assist from the arm of Alex Bruce.
It’s difficult to tell who enjoyed the goal more – the players or the fans – but as the picture above shows, no one cares. That’s the great beauty of a last gasp winner even if Brown was sitting alone in the dressing room when the final whistle blew courtesy of a second yellow card for over-celebrating.
