Liverpool face Tottenham on Saturday as they continue their quest for the Premier League title. One battle in particular could decide the match and could give the Reds the advantage they need to pick up all three points.
On the chalkboard
The Anfield outfit continue to lead the way in England’s top tier, and by some distance too. They currently possess a 13-point advantage, and they even have a game in hand over the rest of the division as well. However, they will be wanting to stay unbeaten so as not to lose momentum.

Spurs, meanwhile, will be looking to upset Jurgen Klopp’s men. Jose Mourinho would surely relish nothing more. Currently in sixth position, it has not been their best campaign, but they have still have the players to cause their opponents problems, such as Son Heung-min and Dele Alli.
Gomez vs Kane
As he has done in each of the last four Premier League games, Joe Gomez should line up alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defence. The 22-year-old has returned to the starting XI after injuries to Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren meant he needed to step into the void, and he has given a huge boost to Klopp’s side. They have kept four clean sheets in a row in the league with him at centre-back – they did so just three times in the other 16 games, and even in one of them, the £31.5m-valued former Charlton man – as per Transfermarkt – featured on the right side of the back four.
The big fat Liverpool quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Anfield?
Jamie Vardy was unable to score for Leicester despite leading the Premier League’s goalscoring charts, but that was more down to the Foxes’ poor service rather than particularly stunning defensive play – they had just 41% possession and failed to register a shot on target. The other displays came against Wolves, Watford and Sheffield United. Raul Jimenez does have eight goals to his name this term, but Son will present a whole different type of task for Gomez.
Spurs will be ruing their luck that they are without Harry Kane, who will be missing from the action due to a hamstring injury. However, the South Korean international is a fantastic option to be able to fall back upon even if centre-forward is not his natural position. According to Transfermarkt, he has 36 goals in 82 games, which is a solid return, but it is his overall play that will keep his opponent on his toes.
Already this season, he has eight assists in the Premier League alone, whilst he also has 10 goals in all competitions. The former Bayer Leverkusen man is comfortable taking players on, as well, as his 2.6 dribbles per match in the league show. Kane, meanwhile, has less than half that number.
Saturday will be another strong test of Gomez’s ability at centre-back. Klopp and co may have prepared in advance for Kane, but Son will throw different challenges rather than just his ability to finish. Although he will have Van Dijk to assist him, the England international will have his work cut out to get the best of Tottenham’s number seven.
