Thus far, Chris Wilder’s side have played with a steely grit that tends to only grace premium promoted clubs. It’s worth noting that Wolves, who are playing European football this season, were similar last year and held a tremendous record against the top six, claiming points against Manchester City, United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
They’d already clawed back a two-goal deficit at Chelsea in August before taking Liverpool all the way at the end of last month, only to be defeated by a late mistake from Dean Henderson. The recently inducted England goalkeeper can be forgiven, though, as he boasts an impressive four Premier League clean sheets so far this term.
As things stand, Sheffield United are currently the highest-ranked United side in the Premier League – hence Fjortoft’s statement – with their namesakes, Manchester United and Newcastle United, currently languishing in the bottom half of the table.
They’ve kept more clean sheets, looked more consistent, have the joint-best goal difference and boast the most points as well, so their unofficial title looks like good value at this point.ÂFjortoft, who played for the Blades between 1998 and 1999, posted to Twitter after the game…
