West Bromwich Albion continued their impressive exploits in the Championship on Wednesday night by thrashing Bristol City 4-1 at the Hawthorns, leaving former Express & Star journalist Matt Wilson waxing lyrical about the club he used to cover.
What’s he said?
The Baggies leapfrogged their nearest challengers Leeds United to regain the top spot in the division and in doing so, also opened up a gap of seven points to third-place.
Slaven Bilic’s men netted four sublime goals with the returning Kieran Gibbs, Matheus Pereira, Hal Robson-Kanu, and Charlie Austin all getting on the scoresheet.
Following the match, Wilson took to Twitter to deliver his verdict on Albion’s performance and their season so far, he said:
Verdict
Wilson, who has seen plenty of West Brom over the years, has given this current side an absolutely glowing review, which could bode well for their season prospects.
“Special” will certainly be one word for it if Bilic can guide the Baggies back to the promised land of the Premier League in just his first season at the club.

He’s got them firing on all cylinders with goals now coming across the squad.
Austin and Robson-Kanu have now both scored in back-to-back matches even though one of them gets the starting nod while Pereira’s tally rises to four goals and seven assists, and likewise, Diangana now has four goals and five assists after his deft backheel for Gibbs’ opener, via WhoScored.
History dictates that if Albion’s current run of form continues into the New Year, then they’ll have an excellent chance of achieving automatic promotion as Football FanCast have previously discussed here.
