Liverpool are eyeing a sensational swoop for Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente after allowing Andy Carroll to join West Ham on loan.
Llorente has endured a tricky couple of months with Bilbao, being forced to train with the reserves after refusing to sign a new deal.
The Spain international has one year left on his contract with a get out clause estimated in the region of £30 million, and has reportedly also attracted interest from Manchester City, Tottenham and Juventus.
Such a move is likely to spark fury from fans of the Basque club, who have already seen star midfielder Javi Martinez move to Bayern Munich.
The 27-year-old would ideally like to join a club playing in the Champions League, but Liverpool may still be the best option for a player who has clearly angered the Bilbao management.
If a deal is completed, Llorente could prove to be a more dynamic player than Carroll and should fit in better to Brendan Rodgers’ style of free-flowing, passing football.
